It was good to hear earlier in the week that the NFL will be doing something to help take care of young Zoey till she is 18, but possibly as long as threw college. I believe the numbers were something in the range of $9000 a month for the next four years (something in the range of $100,000/year) then in the following year it drops down to around $50,000 a year either till she is 18 or finishes college.
This was a product of the collective bargaining agreement. I don't know if there was always something in place about it or if it was new to the one that nearly nixed the football season last year. Either way, it was good to hear that the NFL has something like this in place.
As it turns out, the care she will receive from her extended NFL family will not end there. The Chiefs have set up a trust fund for her as well. No numbers have been disclosed, but the Hunts (owners of the Chiefs, as well as many members of the coaching staff, and roster, and other team personnel will be contributing.
“...the Chiefs family is focused on helping 3-month-old Zoey Michelle Belcher as she faces the challenge of growing up without the support of her parents. Zoey will always be a part of the Chiefs family, and we hope that this trust will help to ensure she has the resources necessary as she grows up.”
