Chip Kelly Named Coach of the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are a talented team without a leader; without a man that could craft them into a championship caliber team. They need someone that knows how to take all kinds of talent and get them to fit  together into a well-oiled machine. Andy Reid had been the man, but in recent years he had fallen from grace. They needed someone new.

Yes, I said need-ed, because they think they now got their man--Oregon head coach Chip Kelly.

Weeks ago Kelly had stated that he was staying in college rather than head to the pros. It was a move that was not too shocking considering the talented, young squad that the Ducks have. Rumor had it that Oregon booster Phil Knight might have had something to do with it as well.

Maybe Knight--you know,. the guy who owns Nike, that company that now does all the apparel for the NFL--realized that his college sales will continue to do well even and that an improved Eagles team could boost his NFL sales a bit.

What will be interesting to see going forward is how the University of Oregon is going to respond to this. Typically, college coaches and their programs prefer to make whatever moves are going to be made shortly after the regular season ends. This allows the new regime the opportunity to get to know the players quicker as well as in recruiting.

Oregon will now either have to pay big to entice another talented coach to leave his program and come to Eugene or hope that whomever is still left there looking for a job is just unlucky with interviews. Otherwise the team will be looking at hiring the best of the worst (since all the good coaches already have jobs).
