The Golden State Warriors had a 16 point lead with around 4 minutes left in the final quarter. They were in great position to win the game until the old San Antonio Spurs came out of hibernation to play basketball. With a Golden State win, that would've put the San Antonio Spurs in an uneasy situation to say the least. The Warriors homecourt, Oracle Arena, is by far the best home crowd for the team and hostile territory for the visitors. The Spurs would've been forced to win a game there if they wanted to win the series.
Instead the Spurs came back from 16 down and took it to double overtime for the win. The Spurs' veteran and championship core experience showed this game with Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker stepping in during crunch time to help the team secure the win. Tim Duncan did a decent job by his standards while battling the stomach flu. In what could've been a huge win for Golden State turned out to be a huge disappointment.
Warriors apologists might chalk this one up as another loss and it not being a huge deal. The Spurs are the higher seed, they were supposed to win this game. They can still steal a game in San Antonio and win at Oracle 3 times to secure a spot in the Western Conference Finals, but that's being too one sided in the discussion. Can the Warriors come back and win 4 games in the series? Absolutely, just ask the Spurs last Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder when San Antonio was up 2-0 and choked away the series....
