Johnny Manziel for Heisman?: It may seem unusual for a freshman to be considered for the most prestigious award in college football, but so far the results warrant it.
Expectations were not too high for the Aggies in general this season, their first in the SEC—the toughest conference in college football. Having a single player perform so well that he would be mentioned in Heisman trophy conversations was far from anyone’s mind as a reasonable expectation.
Six games into the season and freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel has changed all that.
There have been a few players that received Heisman consideration during their careers at Texas A&M, but only one winner, John David Crow back in 1957. The most recent was quarterback Reggie McNeal, but those hopes faded quickly. Barring injury it does not appear that Manziel’s hopes are going to be dashed anytime soon....
