Dallas Cowboys Fans Seeking Presidential Relief

I like the whole "We the People" page that the White House has set up on its website. In this, the electronic age where anything and everything can be found or done online, it just makes sense for the government to try and make use of the internet to try and touch base with the people (after all, isn't that what Al Gore created it for?).

So apparently anyone can post a petition online requesting that the president address a certain issue. Supposedly the White House will respond to any that get at least 25,000 signatures. Now so far the only one I've heard of is having to do with the great state of Texas seceding from the Union and becoming its own country again. I think we have a good test to see if the White House is truly going to respond (a "come on man!" would be appropriate and technically a response...).

But I digress...

As with anything that the government attempts that is well intentioned, this has been a little abused. Several petitions have been started requesting different states be allowed to secede from the Union (please), but the most entertaining ones have been about the wide world of sports.

Auburn fans started one requesting the ouster of Gene Chizik and the AD (I can't remember his name). Last time I looked it didn't have too many signatures, but Chizek has been fired so...

If Georgia actually manages to upset Alabama I imagine another one(if it is still up) could gain steam. Ohio State fans have petitioned for relief from the NCAA sanctions that are keeping their Buckeyes from post season play even though they are clearly one of the best teams in the country.

While it would be absurd for the president to get involved, they have a case. The kids and even most of the coaches (I don't know if any from the Tressel days are still there) that are currently on the team had nothing to do with what they are being punished for. It isn't fair for them to suffer while the Terrelle Pryor's of the world earn big bucks in the NFL.

I don't know. The NCAA migth want to have guys sign something that says they willl forfeit a percentage of their salary should they make it into the NFL if it is discovered after the fact that they did something illegal while in college. It is stupid that the current OSU team suffers. I get that the NCAA has to do something, but they are doing it to the wrong people.

Again, I digress...

Even though no one else has had any luck, some Dallas Cowboys fans are looking for some presidential relief as well. After years of watching Jerry Jones, the owner and self appointed GM of the team, destroy their beloved team they have decided they need presidential relief:

We, the Citizens of the Great State of Texas, and Dallas Cowboys fans worldwide, have been oppressed by an over controlling, delusional, oppressive dictator for way too long. Request the Executive Branch's immediate assistance in removal of owner and GM, Jerry Jones. His incompetence and ego have not only been an extreme disappointment for way too long, but moreover, it has caused extreme mental and emotional duress.
As of 4 PM ET there are right around 3200 signatures on the list, well short of the needed 25,000.

Do these folks have an argument though?

The last time the team won a Super Bowl was in '95. Since then they have been to the playoffs seven times winning just two games, but losing some in epic fashion (right Tony Romo?). Some of the personal decisions have been questionable at best (anyone remember Quincy Carter?); something that can be attributed directly to Jones since he has made it clear that he is the decision maker in Dallas.

Rumor has it that no one really wants to coach there because Jones is too involved. As a result Dallas has had to settle for the best person willing to take the job. I'll admit, I was a fan of Jason Garrett when he was hired, but the man is in over his head.

Jones has even stated that he would fire himself as GM if that was possible, but since it isn't--oh well. He owns the team, he ain't selling, and he's GM for life even thought he has no previous experience running a professional sports franchise.

Prior to Jones owning the team there had bee one coach. The 'Boys are now working on their seventh with No. 8 coming pretty soon. A good argument cold be made that had he not had a tif with Jimmy Johnson the 'Boys could have won at least a couple more Super Bowls under him, and even become the only team to win four win in a row (they did win three of four at one stretch).

So if anyone was to have a case...

Then again, if Al Davis was never interfered with then I suppose Jerry Jones shouldn't be either. (darn)
