Following last night's game against the Green Bay Packers Martellus Bennet was faced with a conundrum. Thanks to his "spidey sense" as he put it he was able to sense that danger was amiss and that he needed to reveal his superhero tendencies in order to save the day or risk his fellow man falling to the powers of evil and ill fortune.
Or in this case-- gravity.
It appears that passes are not the only thing that Bennet is good at catching. While exiting the field last night after he and the rest of the New York Giants were finished beating up on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers he had to come to the rescue of a dude in distress. As he was throwing his game gloves into the crowd his spidey sense told him that a fan was going to be falling over the rail and tumbling a good 15 feet to the ground where he would most assuredly be seriously hurt.
Unless he came to the rescue.
And come to the rescue he did. Bennet stepped up at just the right moment to catch 52-year old Thomas Wall as he fell over the railing.
"Naturally, I just wanted to step back, but I did the righteous thing and I stepped up. I caught him, I saved his life, I tapped into my inner superhero, which I do have."Umm...Martellus...superheros don't back away from the damsel/dude in distress man so you might want to think again about the whole superhero thing. Then again, in the end you did do the right thing so maybe your one of those dark, moody, reluctant superhero types...
Ehh...you really did help the man out; fine, I guess you can call yourself a superhero if you want. Try that elastic dude from the Fantastic 4, Dr. Reed I think. That way you'll never miss a pass again...I'm just saying...
(I mean no disrespect; I'm just having fun much like Martellus in his comments; good job in the game and in the tunnel man.)
Martellus would have come in handy earlier this season inside the stadium when a fan fell from the escalator and ended up dying. The same fate befell (no pun intended) another fan during the preseason in Houston.
While the falling fan, Thomas Wall, was apparently able to walk away injury free it appears that the story may not have a happy ending for the man. He never really got a chance to thank Martellus because he was cuffed and taken away by police almost immediately. Apparently they are going to be charging him with disorderly conduct.
It's nothing serious and will likely be just a fine, but no one wants to fork over their hard earned money to the man for something that wasn't their fault. Wall is claiming that he was pushed. Since fans likely know that guys like Martellus like to throw things into the stands it is believable that he could have been shoved by an over zealous fan.
Hopefully the local authorities will listen to reason; if he's lucky, maybe Martellus will come to the rescue once again...
