The only problem is he has yet to be reinstated by the Roger Goodell. The only question now is when--or if--that is going to happen.
Williams was suspended indefinitely since his crimes were considered much more serious. So the question remains whether they are too serious for one season to be enough or if he should be suspended longer.
Perhaps what Goodell needs to do is consider some of the folks that he already has in the league. True, there may not be any proven ring leaders to a bounty scandal, but there are some real gems.
Take Cleveland Browns defensive line coach Joe Cullen.
You may remember him. Jethro Lett certainly does. He was the manager at Wendy's and happened to be working the drive-thru that fateful day on August 24, 2006; the day when Cullen (who was coaching with the Detroit Lions at the time) pulled through possibly looking for a bacon double cheeseburger--naked.
Funny thing is he almost got away with it. When Jethro tried to call in the complaint, but the police were not taking him seriously (eventually they did).
Incidentally, all he got was a single combo.
I get that what Williams did was stupid and dangerous. He was dishonest and manipulative as he tried to injure the integrity of the game. But Cullen was an idiot that was not and is not very good at his job. He was forgotten in Jacksonville the last three years and with good reason.
His defensive line was among the worst in the NFL. The Jags were dead last in sacks with five fewer than the second to last group. Some may say that is because of the lack of talent, but then even with a poor group as often as the Jags were on defense there is no excuse for doing so bad--other than poor coaching.
I'm not trying to say that one or the other should be in the league (and the other out), but that if one idiot should be allowed in so should the other one.
