Odds Were Against Harbaugh Bowl From Happening

I think I might have to come up with some outlandish scenarios at the start of each season and lay down a little money on the off-chance that they might actually happen. Lately it seems like those kinds of things are paying off.

Perfect example--the possibility that the Harbaugh Brothers would coach against each other in the Super Bowl.

At the beginning of the season the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers were both considered good teams in their respective conferences. Both were given decent odds to make the Super Bowl, but the odds that they would make it against each other were not that good-- 60 to 1.

With both teams having played in their conference championships last season maybe the possibility of them making it back and winning should not have been such long odds. When you look at the so-so offense the 49ers had at the time and the inconsistent one of the Ravens (that only seemed to catch fire towards the end of the regular season).

Baltimore ended up dominating the Patriots in the second half to win their conference championship game 28-13. San Francisco had to overcome an early 17-0 deficit, but once Colin Kaepernick got the offense warmed up there was no stopping them. A second half shut out and two Frank Gore touchdown runs led to a 28-24 win.

So maybe the switch to Kaepernick at QB (for San Francisco) and Jim Caldwell at offensive coordinator (for the Ravens) were genius moves after all. They certainly made whatever gamblers were willing to lay a little money down on a long shot pretty happy!
