Jacoby Jones Could Have Had a Claim (a very small one) to the MVP
Joe Flacco was named MVP and righteously so. The man did play a tremendous game and has the numbers to prove it (22-33, 287 yards, 3 TDs). He was cool, efficient, and a true leader under the pressure of playing in the biggest game of the season.
However, I would be curious to see how many votes--if any--Jacoby Jones got. Known back in Houston where he spent most of his career for running side to side and dropping the ball he appeared to realize that if he just ran straight sometimes great things could happen.
Like in the video above where he tied the Super Bowl record for the longest kick off return for a touchdown at 108-yards. It was initially thought to be a record breaker of 109, but during the 30+ minute power outage the announcers informed the viewing audience of the change.
Earlier in the game he made the play below, something that he seemed to have a knack for during the post season--going deep and actually catching the ball. This beautiful grab along with some poor tackling by the 49ers resulted in a 56-yard touchdown.
Two big plays do not an MVP make, but had he done a couple more it sure might have. Then again, after Delanie Walker lit him up he might not have felt like it anymore.
