Meet the 2013 NFL Hall of Fame Class

The hardest thing that a football player ever does is not recover from an injury or win the Super Bowl or break any individual record. You would think that it is retirement; for most guys that would be the case. However for some--those that had quality careers--retiring is the second hardest thing they'll ever do.

What's the hardest? Waiting to see if they are going to be voted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

This year's finalist made it tough on the selectors; the finalists were all pretty worthy candidates. In the end the selection committee voted in seven players to be in the Class of 2013:
  • wide receiver Cris Carter (Philadelphia Eagles, 1987-89; Minnesota Vikings 1990-01; Miami Dolphins 2002)
  • defensive lineman Warren Sapp (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1995-03; Oakland Raiders 2004-07)
  • offensive lineman Larry Allen (Dallas Cowboys, 1994-05; San Francisco 49ers 2006-07)
  • offensive lineman Jonathan Ogden (Baltimore Ravens, 1996-07)
  • head coach Bill Parcells (NY Giants, 1983-90; NE Patriots 1993-96; NY Jets 1997-99; Dallas Cowboys, 2003-06)***for more on his career click here
Joining them as senior candidates are former defensive tackle Curley Culp (Kansas City Chiefs (1968-74; Houston Oilers 1974-80; Detroit Lions 1980-81) and linebacker Dave Robinson (Green Bay Packers,1963-1972; Washington Redskins 1973-74).

Congratulations gentleman.

As a FatMan, I have to say I am pretty happy with these selections  Out of the seven guys selected you have four lineman, one guy that looks a lineman, two guys that probably eat like lineman but do more cardio, and one skinny dude. It's a good day for FatMen everywhere.

The next time we see these guys all together we'll be ecstatic; not just to see them don the yellow jacket (can't we get a stylist to spruce that sucker up or something; those things were cool back in the 80s), but because football will be back.

It will not be a great game. In fact, it will probably be pretty bad. It usually is, but that's okay. We haven't seen football in six months so when it comes back in August and these guys are enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame it will be a happy day.

Oh what a happy day.
