Pro Bowl Teams May Be Chosen Playground Style in the Future

The Pro Bowl kind of sucks. Ratings are good, but that is because it is the only game in town when it is being broadcast. Since it was moved to the week before it has served as a good stop gap; a method of pacifying fans that are looking for a football fix as they wait for the Super Bowl.

But the game still sucks. Fewer guys bowed out last year, and there was more effort than there has been in years past, but the bar was set pretty low.

The NFL had toyed with the notion of cancelling the game, but the fans (and players) would not be too happy with that. As much as we complain about the game we still watch it. For the players it is a goal that many have set in their contracts with bonuses attached.

Yes, Sports Fans, they like to get paid for being elected to it they just don't want to actually play in it, but since  it isn't going anywhere what  an be done to make it something people want to watch rather than something they are reluctant to?

How about picking the teams playground style? You know, the captains pick who they want on their team and go player by player till the teams are picked (assuming that the pool that they will be choosing from will be comprised of the guys voted in).

The NHL has started using this format in their all-star game, and it went over really well. Heck, it would even give the NFL something else they can market--the Selection Show!
