Kevin Garnett to Retire?

Boston Celtics center/forward Kevin Garnett has played for 18 seasons, logged over 47,000 minutes of playing time, attempted over 20,000 shots (making just under half of them), won a world championship, and spent many years as the cornerstone to fantasy basketball teams everywhere.

And it appears that at 36 he will be hanging it up and retiring from the game.

Rumor has it that the big man is set to have surgery on both ankles now that his season is over. Since he would not be healthy enough to play next season he opted to call it a career.

Now this info has to be taken with a little grain of salt. There has been no official announcement yet. This info comes from a person close to Garnett and told to ESPN. So eve if he did say that he was going to retire to this person there is every reason to believe that this could still not be the case.

However, it would not be shocking to see him go ahead and retire. The Boston Celtics are good, but the team is going to  try and get younger by next season. It was pretty clear in the playoffs that the older, veteran group that the Celtics have could still play, but they got worn out in the end.

Plus, he is 36. He has won a championship and a whole host of other honors. There is nothing he needs to prove to anyone. KG as he is affectionately known will forever be known as one of the best during his day, and will likely make the Hall of Fame sooner rather than later.

If he retires...
