Mavericks Took a Roundabout Way to Do Something Good in the Draft

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is not one to be shy about pulling the trigger on a deal, and proved that once again Thursday night. For a team that is in flux he needs talent, but in order to go after the best free agents in the market he needs cap space.

Thursday night he managed to get both.



It has been no secret that the Mavericks want Dwight Howard, and even though the Houston Rockets are considered the front-runner by far Dallas is still doing what it can. Step one of course is creating cap space, and they got some of that when they traded Jared Cunningham.

With that accomplished (because we all know that Dwight Howard is not going to come cheap) there was still the need for talent. The general consensus is they got it in Miami point guard Shane Larkin. The way they got him was a bit unusual, but there was a real method to the madness....
