Remembering Ten Cent Beer Night--the Craziest Night in Baseball!

If you ever wondered why security at baseball parks is kind of tight and sometimes reacts with a bit of force (remember the taser?) it's probably because of Ten Cent Beer Night, a misguided promotion by the Cleveland Indians back in 1974.

The Indians were not very good. No promotion succeeded in getting fans in the stands. The team was desperate to improve attendance so it offered up the one thing fans would love regardless of the quality of baseball being played on the field--really cheap beer.

Beer typically costs 65 cents, but on that night it costs just 10. There was no limit for the duration of the game, but you could only buy six at a time (yeah, that had to suck).

What ensued was night that baseball would love to forget and many fans likely did.

Take the time to watch this clip, and you'll be amazed at what unfolded that night.
