Chip Kelly is in Real Good Shape for his First Season in the NFL

First year Philadelphia Eagles Head.Coach Chip Kelly found himself in an enviable position. He needed to pick who his starting quarterback was going to be and both of his options were playing well during the preseason.

Prior to the third preseason game he went ahead and picked the veteran, Michael Vick. From the looks of the game against Jacksonville it was a pretty good choice.

He appeared to have his accuracy back completing 15 of 23 passes for 184 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The 33-year old seemed to find his legs too running seven times for 53 yards.

Yeah, you know that had to make Chip Kelly feel pretty good.

While I am sure getting the vote of confidence from his head coach helped from some comments he made in the press it sounds like he decided to just play like he knows how to play--and not worry about injuries.

“...I think you got to take on a certain mindset that you’re going play the game all out,” Vick said. “If you go into a football game not wanting to get hurt or trying not to get hurt, it doesn’t allow you to play the way you want to play...”

Vick has taken a beating over the years with the way that he runs--with no regard for his safety; not a good trait for a starting QB. In his comments he went on to blame the media for changing the way he plays (BS of course), but the good thing is he decided it was time to break out some vintage Vick.

At the age of 33 he is on the downside of his career anyway so he might as well play all out and take the risk. He likely has two to three years left; better make the most of them.

In the past this would be a headache for his coach, but Kelly can actually rest pretty easy. Why? Because Nick Foles has played well enough to earn the starter's job as well. Against the Jaguars he was 10-11 for 112 yards, but he did guide the team on a late game-winning touchdown drive.

So if Vick does happen to get hurt Kelly basically has another No. 1 QB waiting in the wings.
