Has Mack Brown Lost His Touch?

With 19 returning starters and some of the best athletes in the nation on his roster Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown had every reason to be confident heading into the season. On paper his team looked great so knowing that the fan base wanted to hear what he thought he told them—we’re back.


“We’re back in a position where we can compete,” Brown told USA TODAY Sports. “We’ve got a good quarterback, a better team. Our strength program is in better shape. We’re back in the game, and we should be even better next year. Everything is playing toward us getting back on the national scene. There’s a little edge around here right now, and I’m kind of enjoying the challenge and fight of getting it back.”

Two games in his team is 1-1, gave up a school record 550 yards rushing, fired its defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, and promoted the video analyst—Greg Robinson-- to replace him.

Robinson is actually an experienced coach, and even spent some time with Mack Brown and the Longhorns back in 2004 as the co-defensive coordinator....
