Suffice it to say that the season is not going as well as Lane Kiffin had hoped it would for the USC Trojans. At 1-1 the season is far from lost, but the team has not looked good against either of its opponents (Hawaii and Washington State)--and the competition is just going to get tougher.
So what does Kiffin and the university do? They script an interview for him where he names Cody Kessler the starting quarterback going forward, but refuses to say why.
Kiffin had done like many coaches in the first week and waited till the last minute to name his starter. After using both Cody Kessler and Max Wittek in the first game--with neither really playing well--he could get away with not naming one in Week Two as well.
I suppose it would have been kind of silly to try and play "Whose the Starter?" for a third consecutive week, but in light of the struggles the team has had it would have been interesting to see how he justified naming Kessler the starter over Wittek.
Unless he couldn't...
