Michigan Needs Defensive Stand to Avoid Getting Upset by Akron

The Michigan Wolverines were supposed to run over Akron with ease. The Zips were supposed to give the team a nice soft opponent (one win in the last three years--come on!) to help the team work out whatever kinks there may be at this point in the season.

Instead, they nearly gave the Wolverines one heck of a shocking upset.

The first half was a surprisingly low scoring affair with the Wolverines taking a slim 7-3 lead into half time. They managed to stretch it out to 21-10 when Devin Gardner passed to Jehu Chesson for 33 yards and the touchdown with a little more than four minutes to go in the third.

But than the Zips fired back with a pair of touchdowns off their own to take a 24-21 lead with 4:14 left to play. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either.

The thought of losing must have knocked the cob webs loose as the Wolverines marched down the field pretty quick (see scoring play above) to retake the lead--but the Zips were not done!

Akron QB Kyle Pohl had the Zips in position to win, but on fourth and goal from the three he had to hurry the throw and missed his receiver in the end zone.
