Johnny Manziel's Boob-Gate was Just a Joke (shocker)

Well this comes as no surprise. In case you didn't hear, the internet was up in arms over this picture of a girl showing off what appeared to be Johnny Manziel's autograph on her chest. Rumors have run rampant about all sorts of things from Texas A&M and the NCAA calling her to countless blog post (did one myself)--some nice and others not so nice--and all kinds of hate on Twitter.

And it was all fake.

They thought it was real!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!
From what I've been able to gather the signature was just apart of the young ladies costume and a friend of hers--not Johnny--provided the signature.

I get the joke and I'm sure folks at whatever party she went to that night found it hilarious. When something gets online though--man, it just takes a mind of its own! Of course the legion of bloggers like myself don't help. With so much competition for page views it is all about being first with the story.

In the process there is no fact-checking involved. Folks work with what they think they have and go with it.

I saw it off another blog, but I guess where the story began was with this tweet:
Hey @espn I paid a lot of money for this autograph pic.twitter.com/twVgzAGsG5

I had my own doubts so in my post I just congratulated Johnny for being the kind of dude chick want to sign their chest, and chastised ESPN for what I figured would be the hate soon to come. If it was true, all the power to him; if not--funny.

Apparently a lot of other folks actually took it seriously and were not so nice.

I didn''t bother to look and see what they wrote; I don't see why so many folks have to put someone down online anyway. It's easy to do since you don't have to look at them, but if its something you would not say to their face maybe it shouldn't be said at all.

She eventually got an apology from them, but at that point it's a little late. Once something is out there folks, it is out there.

You can blame the young girl if you want--who I guess is a law student--and say she should not have done it, but at the same time who would take this seriously? I don't get where anyone would think that it was real or that she was trying to do anything but be funny.

Come on folks.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that you should take anything and everything you see on the internet with a grain of salt, and before you go off on a handle about anything fact check it first. Yeah, writers/bloggers should do that too (guilty), but don't count on them.

Don't worry Lynne. Someone else will do something by this weekend and it will all blow over. Oh--and if Johnny reaches out to sympathize over the infamy you've achieved--keep it to yourself.
