South Carolina Defense Forces Four Turnovers in Dominant Win Over Mississippi State

South Carolina needed a game where they pretty much dominated to help reestablish its presence in the SEC (and the nation) as a team to be feared--and got one Saturday against Mississippi State 34-16. Four of the 10 completions Connor Shaw had were for touchdowns and Mike Davis had 127 yards on 15 carries, but the real hero of the day is the Gamecocks defense.

With four turnovers on the day the defense put the offense in position pretty much all game long so that much was not required of them. To be fair to Mississippi State, there was a little bit of luck involved with two of the interceptions coming off of tips.

But you could also say that they were caused by a stifling defense that forced an errant throw (see above) and the other was just the defense being in position. Either way the Gamecocks won, improved to 7-2.

They will need some help if they are going to make it to the SEC title game, but performances like this definitely help put some swagger back in the team.
