Texas Longhorns--Meet Your New Athletic Director

The search for the new athletic director for the Univesity of Texas is over. It is being reported that the university is set to hire Arizona State AD Steve Patterson.

Patterson is going to take over for current AD DeLoss Dodds when he steps down next year after 32 years overseeing one of the most popular and profitable athletic departments in the nation. Wikipedia's take on the new hire for Texas is awesome beyond words:
On November 4th, somewhere on the burnt orange interwebs, the story was broken that Steve Patterson is slated to become the next Athletic Director (aka BAMF) at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. In other words, he would go from from just another Patterson to becoming the "Jones" of college athletics. He does have the royal burnt orange blood running through his veins by virtue of getting both his undergraduate degree and law degree from the one-and-only, exalted UT. He will also go from one large public school/location (Arizona State/Phoenix) to another (Texas/Austin) which are both blessed with amazing coed sights, but the key difference is ENDOWMENT SIZE (which does matter to those hot coeds) -- $500 Million vs. $18 Billion.
Ummm...okay.

From what I've been able to gather Patterson appears to be quite capable of doing the job. However, there I do have one concern--he appears to jump ship pretty easily. He just took the job with ASU in 2012. He served as the Portland Trailblazers President from 2003 and than the GM as well in 2006 before surprising the world and resigning in 2007.

I'd imagine that landing a job like that would be something anyone in their right mind would be happy to stay at until time for retirement--that is, assuming he's up to the task.
