When you are a punter you are not on the field very much, but there is no other player on the field that has to be perfect every second he is on the field in order to do his job right. Why? Because when he doesn't bad things happen; bad, game-changing type of things.
For example, if he doesn't give the coverage team a chance to get down field and cover the play the return man has the chance to survey the field, find a hole, and make a run for the end zone--like Antonio Bryant did against the Bengals Sunday night.
But that's not the worst thing that could happen--the punter at least.
The punter now has to make a play on the ball carrier. Punters are not known for their tackling, but they are known for being easy targets when it comes to blocking--like Bengals punter Ken Huber was here:
If you are thinking that looked really bad, well--you're right. Huber ended up getting a fractured jaw on the play!
If that wasn't bad enough he also failed to corral a bad snap, and was tackled on the one-yard line setting up an easy touchdown for the Steelers.
Yeah, I'd say that qualifies as a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day--or in this case night.
