Mack Brown and Nick Saban Not Going Anywhere; Both Coaches Staying Put

It looks like all the fun and games might be over and all for nothing. After all sorts of speculation, rumors, and sources that were 'in the know' it now looks like Nick Saban is going to be coaching the Alabama Crimson Tide next season and Mack Brown is going to be back on the sideline in Austin.

From what I can tell this is what went down:

We've heard all week that Saban has had a nice extension sitting on his desk. Well, it now appears that he has signed it and will remain in Tuscaloosa for the immediate future:

So that cuts out this season, but what if the Longhorns tank it next season?

That makes it sound pretty definitive. It seems that all the circumstantial evidence that had him moving was just that--circumstantial.

With Saban staying in Alabama it is pretty safe to say that Brown is not going anywhere either. The only way that recruiting would have not been hurt by such a late decision on the head coach would have been if Saban was the new guy. Anyone else at this point will scare some recruits off.

Not to mention if the school goes elsewhere now it is going to look like they are settling for someone rather than finding the best man for the job.

As it stands--there has yet to be an announcement that Mack Brown is staying on. At the UT banquet Friday night he talked as if he's going to be around at least through the bowl game. If the team where to switch coaches at that point unless the school money whips a huge name into coming recruits are going to run for the hills.

Steve Patterson, the new athletic director, mentioned that he is looking forward to working with Brown lending to the notion that Brown is going to stay. What's interesting though is how things supposedly went down.

From numerous reports on the World Wide Web it sounds as if Brown was going to retire, but when word was leaked to the media he got angry and decided that he was going to stick around instead.
