New Mexico Bowl: Washington State and Oklahoma Now Have Something in Common

There are a number of things that have to stick out in the mind of Oklahoma Sooners Head Coach Bob Stoops, but if there is one that I'd think might stick out more than others it would be the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and that da*n gimmick play that Boise State ran on him for the win in overtime...stupid Statue of Liberty play...

At least now he isn't the only coach to lose a bowl game because of a play that is most commonly used in Pee Wee games (because it looks so cute when little kids do it!).

It had been all Washington State early on in the New Mexico Bowl, and for most of the game really. When the Cougars took a 35-13 lead towards the end of the first half I turned the channel. This sucker was boring! As I turned the channel it appeared Colorado State remembered how to play offense.

By the end of the first half Colorado State closed the gap from 22 to 13, but with right around 10 minutes left in the  fourth they were down by 15. It wasn't looking good. They needed some help; they needed the defense to come up with a big play or two.

So they did.

After closing the gap to eight a turnover gave the Rams the chance to tie the game up on the two point conversion, and it was another turnover that gave them the chance to win the game with a 41-yard field goal.

With that the Rams pulled victory from what looked like certain defeat--so the Rams did what any team would do in a case like this.

They celebrated.
