Notre Dame's Louis Nix III With the Fat Guy Play of the Day-- He's Going Pro!

In the coming days college football fans are going to get some bad news. Some of their favorite players may make an announcement; one that the fans don't want to hear. In most cases the decision should not come as a surprise, but some fans want their favorites to keep playing for free (with the exception of an education) as long as possible.

Notre Dame fans got some of that bad news today when it was announced that defensive tackle Louis Nix III had decided to go pro.

Nix has been teasing fans about possibly staying for his fifth and final year of eligibility, but I can't imagine anyone seriously expected him to. The 6'3" and 325 pounds run stopper is going to have his degree in hand so unless he wanted to get a start on a Master's degree there is no reason to stay in school other than to play football one more year for the Fighting Irish.

Or he can go play in the NFL and make a couple million in the process. Yeah--easy decision.

I can see why fans love this guy though. Not only is he a solid player, but he committed when the team didn't even have a coach. Charlie Weis had been fired at that point and rather than wait and see who they hired he signed anyway.

That was a pretty big gamble. What if the new coach had decided to go with leaner, more speed oriented  linemen? Players want to go to schools that have a style that suits their talents. At the time he didn't know what Notre Dame was going to run.

He just knew he wanted to go to South Bend to play football.

Yeah, I can see why the Irish Faithful like this guy.
