Robert Griffin III is Out and Kirk Cousins Is In...For Now

The saga in Washington has take a whole new twist. After getting benched on Sunday there have been rumors that the Redskins may look to actually bench the franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Media outlets have been reporting for the last few days that Washington Head Coach Mike Shanahan might be thinking about benching Griffin due to injury concerns, and it appears that is indeed the case since Kirk Cousins has been named the starter for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The word is that Shanahan is concerned about RG3's health; maybe because he has never really been healthy this season or because he has gotten his behind kicked by defenses all season. Or it could be because his son--the team's offensive coordinator prefers Cousins over RG3 so Dad is giving him what he wants.

A local area NBC affiliate has reported that part of the reason Mike Shanahan has considered leaving the team is because he doesn't want to have to choose between the team and his son in regards to its quarterbacks.

The Redskins have been an absolute mess this season, and this just adds to it all, but in the end it could very well be a good thing. The sooner the team bottoms out the sooner it can rebuild and get back on track.
