The Dallas Cowboys-- the .500 Team

The modern Dallas Cowboys are a .500 team. I am stating a fact, but for some reason I cannot come to terms with it. I live my life thinking they are not going to have the same number of wins as they have losses.

8 and 8 in 2011. 8 and 8 in 2012. This season they sit at 7 and 6 on a decidedly .500 trajectory.

During autumn and winter, I tune in nearly every week (unless they have a bye week) and nervously hope for great things to happen. For the past 2.75 seasons it has been a virtual coin toss that determines if I leave the sports bar grinning or sit lifeless on the couch wondering what the hell just happened.

Two good friends named Mike are fellow Cowboys fans. Mike H. has said, repeating many before him, "You win some and you lose some." For Dallas, "some" is exactly half.

Mike H. went to bed in the third quarter tonight in an attempt to change the momentum in the game. The other Mike, Mike S, has stopped blowing up my phone with commentary/editorial texts. I know why. He is sinking into his week long depression. As a .500 team, I only get to talk to Mike during 50% of days of fall and winter. At least, because they are losing a Monday night game, I will have one less day to wait before I hear from Mike S. again.

Did not the team roll into Chicago tonight after two straight wins and a long break after a Thanksgiving victory? The winning streak, if you can call it that, came crashing to an end on the frozen tundra of Solider Field. Is this the start of a losing streak that brings the team back to .500?
I guess I will find that out six days from now when the Packers play 60 in Dallas and I get to talk to my friend Mike S. again.
