Charlie Strong Bans Longhorns Players From Flashing 'Hook 'em Horns' Sign (for now)

When the Mack Brown Era ended at the University of Texas change was the one thing that was guaranteed to happen. How it was going to happen was the big unknown, but Charlie Strong has had no qualms about putting his stamp on the program. His rules have been well documented and applauded, but a there is one change that might catch people by surprise.

Players are not allowed to flash the 'Hook 'em Horns' sign.

Banning a hand gesture will likely sound crazy to some (that don't work for a gang task force or a public school on the wrong side of town), but the idea is genius. It has nothing to do with control (it's something relatively impossible to monitor after all), and he does plan on letting them do it again.

They have to earn the right first.

Hard to argue with that, right? Here you have one of the most popular programs in the nation, but it has been underperforming the last few years. Strong plans on changing that and has been hard at work installing a deeper, stronger work ethic in his players with the goal of reversing that trend.

What it will take for players to get the right back is something that only Strong knows, but it is probably safe to assume that will require dedication to the program and a whole lot of hard work. From the sound of things coming out of Austin getting that out of his players is not going to be a problem.

I do have to wonder--if he isn't satisfied would be actually maintain the ban going in to the first game next season?

Again, only something Strong knows.
