DeSean Jackson Responds to Rumors of Possible Gang Affiliation

Those that follow the NFL in the off-season were not surprised to hear that the Philadelphia Eagles cut wide receiver Desean Jackson. What will be surprising is that the fear of possible gang affiliations was actually a contributing factor.

As could be expected, Jackson released a statement concerning his release, but mostly as a response to the insinuation that he is a gang member:

 

What will be interesting going forward is whether teams are going to believe him or do like the Eagles. The Carolina Panthers were quick to state they had an interest in Jackson following his release, but have already retracted the statement.

Teams can do an intense background check of course, but will they want to have a player around that they feel the need to do a deep background check on? Yeah, I'm sure they do check on everyone, but how in-depth do they get and how in-depth will anyone be willing to go to make sure Jackson is safe to sign?

Only time will tell.
