Phil Knight Gift $1 Billion--Yes, Billion--to the University of Oregon?

Phil Knight has already given more to the University of Oregon than any donor has ever given the school. If he is trying to prove something by giving even more--well, he doesn't need to. What else can he prove? However, if you listen to all of the rumors the Nike chairman might have announced a $1 billion gift to Oregon at a invite-only event Friday night.

So...anyone...did he do it?

As it turns out it sounds like the big announcement was that the university is kicking off a big campaign aimed at raising $2 billion:

The campaign has been going on for the last four years and has already raised over $700 million. The party was to announce the goal of the campaign.

So--did Knight make a big donation or something in order to mark the announcement? The man was not even at the party. That does not mean the rumor of a $1 billion gift  is not true. It has not been refuted.

He could very well make the announcement at another time....like after a game...or at half time
 of one...
