Wisconsin the Real Running Back U?

Last weekend the college football loving world was treated to something special when it got to witness Wisconsin Badgers running back Melvin Gordon break LaDanian Tomlinson's single-game rushing record with 408 yards against Nebraska. Players past and present took to Twitter to congratulate him on his big day, but a tweet by one person brings an interesting thought to mind.

Could Wisconsin be the real Running Back U?

Most lists will have Wisconsin in the top ten when it comes to producing running backs, but none at No. 1. With things like NFL draft picks and Heisman trophy winners being major factors it is not hard to see why. However, when it comes to college running backs the Badgers have had three of the best in NCAA history.

Former Wisconsin running back Montee Ball pointed out that the three major rushing college rushing records are all held by Badgers running backs:

Yeah, they haven't had as many guys head to the NFL or win the Heisman as other schools, but as far as college running backs--and according to the record books--Wisconsin has had three of the best.

Is that enough to call them Running Back U? I don't know, but at the least it should boost their case the next time the question is being debated.
