In his press conference Bill Belichick put the onus on his quarterback. In his press conference, Tom Brady sounded about as disingenuous as he possibly could have leaving many to believe he is guilty as sin.
Aikman is convinced that Brady is involved and said as much during a radio appearance:
"It's obvious that Tom Brady had something to do with this," Aikman said. "I know going back to when I played, they've loosened up the rules in terms of what each team is able to do with the footballs coming into the game. Used to, the home team provided all the balls. And now, each team brings their footballs the way they like them and break 'em in. Used to you couldn't break them in. So for the balls to be deflated, that doesn't happen unless the quarterback wants that to happen, I can assure you of that. Now the question becomes did Bill Belichick know about it."
He thinks the NFL should slap Brady and the Patriots the same way it slapped the New Orleans Saints for Bounty-Gate:
"This whole comment by Roger Goodell based on the Saints when Sean Payton got suspended for the year, and he says 'ignorance is no excuse,' that's going to come back to haunt him again," Aikman said "That haunted him during the whole Ray Rice situation with he, himself, and now it's going to haunt Roger Goodell in terms of what the punishment is for the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick. If ignorance is no excuse, and it wasn't for Sean Payton."
During an appearance of his own actor, director Kevin Costner chastised Aikman for being overly harsh of Brady:

"It's bold talk," Costner said. "And I like Troy a lot and I like Tom a lot. And it's bold when you say somebody is lying."He went on to say:
"That's a tough place to be. Tom said he didn't know," Costner said. "Tom might've liked the feel of that ball and he didn't want to say anything about it. 'I really like the feel of that ball.' ... Maybe I'm sitting here being really naive."Mr. Costner, love your work, but I think you may have hit the nail on the head yourself already. You are being a little naive about all this. A public figure lie? Never!
