Texas Longhorns Get Some Good and Bad Recruiting News Monday

National Signing Day is Wednesday. On that day a whole bunch of super athletic kids will give some grown men job security and thousands of fans hope by making it official that they are going to play college football for their school. Recruits can announce who they are going to commit to whenever they want and many already have, but it is who they send the paperwork in for that really matters.

Charlie Strong is really hoping to bring in a stellar class to the Longhorns in order to fill some personnel gaps he inherited. So far the class he has coming in is pretty good, and while it gained a member Monday it lost out on two it hoped to get.

The team had high hopes and really wanted to bring in former Texas A&M commit Daylon Mack. The monstrous defensive lineman has said he knows who he is going to, but will not reveal his choice till Wednesday. However, it appears that he at least told someone that he is not going to Texas.

Neither is stud running back SoSo Jamabo.

As dissappointing as that is the good news is really good. After losing out on Kyler Murray the Longhorns were desperate for a quarterback. Monday night they got one by flipping Florida State recruit Kai Locksley

As nice as it would have been to have Mack on the defensive line the team was in desperate need for a quarterback after Zach Gentry flipped to Michigan. Swoopes looked dismal last season and word is that Heard is not ready to take the helm yet.

Does this mean Locksley is a lock for the job? Absolutely not. However, it does mean that the team is not necessarily stuck with Swoopes behind center again.

  1. Kris Boyd also reaffirmed his commitment to t.u. late last night when Twitter was all atwitter with thoughts that he might flip to the Aggies.
