Look For USC QB Cody Kessler To Do More Running Next Season

Last season Cody Kessler's stat sheet looked pretty darn good with the exception of one thing. His completion percentage was solid (69.7) as was his yardage total (3826). Fans have to be happy about the 39 touchdowns he threw for and the lack of interceptions too (5). However, there was one thing that didn't look too good.

His -152 yard rushing total.

Kessler was not one to take off running very often so he the expectations for his rushing yards were not high to begin with. When he did actually run he gained 100 yards during the season, but when the loss of yardage for the 32 sacks is factored in his total drops down to -152.

So does Steve Sarkasian want to turn him in to a dual threat quarterback? Not at all, but if he can make a few plays with his legs when the defense is making it hard for him to make one with his arm...
"Cody's never going to be a runner where we're calling designed runs for him," Sarkisian said, "but if we can take advantage of some third and fours and third and six when coverage is really good ... those are winning plays in a ballgame."
The team has high hopes for Kessler going in to next season. If he can start making something out of nothing by becoming a better scrambler that will certainly make a difference.
