Former Washington QB Connor Halliday Retires From NFL Before Career Actually Starts

The end of a player's football career is something he hates to face and more often than not can't see coming. Former Washington quarterback Connor Halliday saw his college career end abruptly when his leg was broken during last season's USC game. The injury made it impossible for him to participate in the Combine or Washington's Pro Day, but that didn't matter to the Washington Redksins.

They were willing to give him a shot anyway, and signed him as a free agent. However, as it turns out it looks like Halliday is ready to leave football behind.

After thriving under Mike Leach for the last few years there was some hope that Halliday could turn in to a good pro quarterback once he adjusted to a pro-style game. Rather than see if he can do it Halliday has opted to retire from the NFL before he really became a part of it.

With rookie mini-camp this weekend Halliday should be with the Redskins working out, but instead he is not on the roster. Apparently he is off the roster and word has it he has decided to retire from the game.

The news is somewhat surprising. After his injury last season he sounded pretty broken up when he responded to a fan on Twitter wishing him well as he recovers.

That makes it hard to believe that he would walk away without giving it an honest shot, but there is nothing that says he can't change his mind.
