What happened? Well--even though the two teams did not play last year the Aggies did beat the Longhorns.

Texas A&M actually ranked second in the nation in attendance last season with an average of 105,123 fans at each of the six home games trailing only Ohio State who had 106,296 (seven games). The Aggies finished fourth in total attendance including road games and neutral sites with 1,118,202.
Texas, on the other hand, ranked eighth in the nation with just over 94,000 a game coming to Texas home games leaving right around 6000 seats empty a game. It was a dip of close to 5000 from the 2013 season when the Longhorns ranked fourth in attendance. With a total of 991,551 fans in attendance they ranked 12th.
The Aggies actually ranked first in the nation in one category--attendance increase (17,998 fans/game over 2013), but that was to be expected. Thanks to the stadium renovations Kyle Field's capacity went from 82,600 to 109,000.
No, it is not nearly as exciting as winning a game between the two teams, but it does show one important thing. The fans recognize that Texas A&M is putting a much better product on the field than Texas.
