Horrible Call By Refs Cost Wisconsin Badgers Game Against Northwestern [VIDEO]

Refs are supposed to keep the game safe and fair, but they are not supposed to have a direct impact on the outcome of the game--but they certainly did in the Wisconsin--Northwestern game. Late in the third quarter Wisconsin punt returner Alex Erickson appeared to make a great return for a touchdown, but the refs called it back. They claimed that he had called for a fair catch.

A fair catch call is done by waving a hand overhead. Erickson doesn't even come close to doing that. What he does is waive the team off by waiving his arms down low; a common practice when a kick doesn't go very far.

How the refs messed this up is a mystery. Blowing what should have been an easy call is something that deserves at least a suspension (for a first offense; second--fire 'em).

Northwestern went on to win 13-7.
