A fair catch call is done by waving a hand overhead. Erickson doesn't even come close to doing that. What he does is waive the team off by waiving his arms down low; a common practice when a kick doesn't go very far.

How the refs messed this up is a mystery. Blowing what should have been an easy call is something that deserves at least a suspension (for a first offense; second--fire 'em).
Northwestern went on to win 13-7.
