During his day there was no one as fierce as Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. His freakish athleticism made him an integral part of the Steelers defense at the time and one of the best in the league. He was a big reason why the Steelers where able to make a run back during the 2005 season that ended with a victory in Super Bowl XL.
So when the team planned to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Super Bowl XL they tried to get him to come, but he wanted nothing to do with the celebration or the team.

Polamalu holds a grudge over how he felt the team handled his exit. The Steelers had made it clear they thought he was done; they wanted to rebuild and didn't see him being a part of the future. He felt like he still had something to offer at 34.
So that meant he had a choice to make--get cut and go play for someone else or retire rather than be one of those guys that finishes his career playing for a different team.
The Steelers will have another celebration coming up in 2018 so hopefully they can mend fences by then.
