Washington Redskins Finally Find A Use For Robert Griffin III

The Washington Redskins have said that they have no intention of trading Robert Griffin III. They also appear to have no intention of playing him either. With the way he last played it is not likely they would be offered more than a sixth round pick for the former first rounder anyway. So while Kirk Cousins plays brilliantly one week and terrible the next he sits on the bench without a prayer of getting in the game (since Colt McCoy is the No. 2).

It seems like an awful shame to have a former first round pick and Heisman trophy winner sitting around cashing his $3.26 million paycheck for doing absolutely nothing. That is exactly what has been going on--until now.

The Redskins are finally getting some use out of Griffin this season--by having him play scout team this week. With the Carolina Panthers on deck the Redskins will have to figure out how to slow down Cam Newton if they are going to have a chance to win. So far no one has been able to do so this season.

As a result, the Panthers are undefeated and Newton is in MVP conversations.

Maybe since the Redskins defense will be able to practice against a dangerous running quarterback (Griffin) they will be a little better prepared than most to stop one (Newton).

According to Jon Gruden it has been helpful:
“Yeah, a little bit,” said coach Jay Gruden. “He's doing some of that, which is good, but, you know, to envision to emulate a guy that's 6-foot-6, 265 pounds is a little bit different. But with some of the zone-read packages, they've seen a little bit with Kirk [Cousins] and Robert. Then, obviously, Robert is excellent at that, so we will use him effectively in that area.”

  1. The problem with Kirk cousin is he don't threaten the defense he just sits in the pocket not trying to expand a play defenses love playing against qb like that
