For Temple to beat the Houston Cougars in the inaugural American Conference Championship game they knew they would have to play well enough on offense and dominate on defense. Well--they didn't dominate on defense, but managed to hold them to just a touchdown in the second half. The offense, however, had a hard time moving the ball against a tough Houston defense.
Late in the game and down by two 11 Temple was moving the ball, but running out of time. In need of a fourth down conversion to keep their slim hopes alive the center makes a bad snap, and the quarterback was unable to make the first down:
Houston won 24-13.
