Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill Leds The League In One Category--Yards Lost To Sacks

Ryan Tannehill showed enough promise last season that the Miami Dolphins decided to go ahead and sign him to a pretty pricey extension--four years, $77 million. This season he has looked like anything but a guy worth the $9.3 million he'll get paid next season. Since they are kind of stuck with him for the time being they better figure out what they can do with him.

They may want to start with blocking and teaching Tannehill when to throw it away because the man is taking way too many sacks.

It isn't that he is just taking too many sacks, but it's what he looses when he takes them. Even though he ranks fourth on the list of most sacked quarterbacks he has lost more yardage to sacks than any other quarterback.

Russell Wilson has been sacked the most this season (so far; 37) followed by Blake Bortles and Alex Smith (34 each), and then Tannehill (33), but Tannehill has lost significantly more yardage than anyone else:
  1. Ryan Tannehill: 328 Yds (Sacked 33 times & 9.94 Yds Avg)
  2. Teddy Bridgewater: 229 Yds (Sacked 30 times & 7.63 Yds Avg)
  3. Russell Wilson: 197 Yds (Sacked 37 times & 5.32 Yds Avg)
  4. Blake Bortles: 187 Yds (Sacked 34 times & 5.5 Yds Avg)
  5. Alex Smith: 185 Yds (Sacked 34 times & 5.44 Yds Avg)
Of the quarterbacks that have played in most of their team's games Eli Manning actually leads the way with the least amount of yards given up to sacks with just 103 yards lost during 18 sacks.
