The 1977 movie Black Sunday had the right idea in mind when it came to terrorist disrupting the American way of life. In the movie, the bad guys are looking to blow up the Super Bowl by crashing a blimp into the stadium. Talk about spreading a message of terror. Could you imagine what that would be like? With the number of people that watch the game the attack would be seen by millions around the world.
But what if the bad guys took out our ability to see the game instead of the game itself?

Officials with the FBI and Homeland Security are looking into some recent cases of vandalism involving some of AT&T's fiber optic cables that has them concerned about a more complex plot against the Super Bowl. There have been 15 attacks on fiber optic cables in the region since 2014 with 10 cables getting cut in the process disrupting internet and phone service for hours.
The thought is that the bad guys could be trying to test and prod at network durability in an effort to gain information for a more complex plot.
Knocking out internet service would keep people who have cut the cord with cable television from watching the game, but what if the bad guys are working on a way to knock out the broadcast altogether? Talk about a surefire way to anger an entire nation!
Sporting events, especially the Super Bowl, are always popular targets for terrorists which is why security is always taken as seriously as it is. Officials do not think there is reason for any concern at the moment and caution people against overreacting.
