When Josh Smith joined the Houston Rockets last season he ended up providing the team with some pretty valuable minutes off the bench. He wanted to play more so he signed with the Clippers in the off-season. Well--that didn't quite work out as he expected.
So now he is back in Houston after the Clippers traded him back to the Rockets, but it wasn't your traditional trade. What they essentially did was pay the Rockets to take him back.
The Clippers did get the rights to former second round pick
Maarten Leunen so they didn't let Smith go for absolutely nothing.
They did, however, send enough cash with him to cover his salary.
So Houston will get his services and not have to pay him since the Clippers were nice enough to provide the Rockets with Smith's salary.
