Who knows exactly what has broken up this dynamic duo, but a Twitter war recently made it painfully clear that rapper/businessman/boxing promoter 50 Cent and boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather will not be hanging out anytime soon.
It is a little surprising to see the two so clearly at odds now after being close for so long. When Mayweather had to surrender himself to start his jail sentence 50 went with him. Later, when his sentence was completed, who picked Mayweather up—his boy 50 Cent.
Without getting confirmation from the duo themselves it appears that the beginning of the end came back in July when 50 Cent became a boxing promoter, and the two went into business together forming TMT (The Money Team) Productions; 50 now runs SMS Promotions.
According to stories scattered over the last few months it appears as if 50 was pushing Mayweather to go into business with and/or fight Manny Pacquiao. A pretty successful businessman, 50 likely saw how lucrative either venture could be. Knowing that it is all about money, he may have pushed Mayweather to do something he didn't want to do (because when it comes to Manny and Mayweather money is not the issue).
Mayweather balked at the thought of going into business with Pacquiao and continues to refuse to fight him; something that 50 Cent swore he could make happen.
Maybe it was 50’s willingness to go into business and be friendly with his arch nemesis. Maybe it was something that was inevitable once the duo started mixing business with friendship. Whatever it was 50 Cent made it clear the business and personal relationship was over via Twitter last Thursday:
"TMT IS OVER the money team is no longer a team. So it SMS promotions that's it thats all.SMSaudio”
Since then the duo broke out into a war of words over the social media outlet that was pretty impressive. Here are some of the highlights:
The following were all from 50 Cent:
"GAMBOA WANTS TO FIGHT FLOYD. I will put up a extra 20 million for the winner. He don't like it that Floyd pulled out. #SMSAUDIO"
"GAMBOA MOVING UP IN WEIGHT FLOYD. You should have know not to go against me PUNK #SMSAUDIO"
"I can't hang out with Floyd no more,I'm tired of running from manny pacquiao #smsAudio”
These came from Mayweather:
"A male boxing groupie.. hold my belts because your album sales have declined http://instagr.am/p/Rjhoa1R3Vb/"
"(Bleep) Boy you look cute in that jackethttp://instagr.am/p/RjjIS8R3Wo/ "
"Hold my money (Bleep) Boy http://instagr.am/p/RjmsFWx3Yg/ "
Money (cash, not Mayweather) can easily break a friendship a part. You would think that since both are filthy, stinking rich that it wouldn’t be an issue for them, but it appears that is the case.
Take a look back at the bromance here!
