For Charlotte's Michael Kidd Gilchrist it's not the Shoes

Michael Kidd Gilchrist is in a rather unique position. As the No. 2 pick in the last draft he is expected to produce and make a big difference for his team--the Charlotte Bobcats--immediately.

What's so unique about that you ask? I'll tell you.

By now, if you watch or even casually follow the NBA you are fully aware that the Charlotte Bobcats were the worst team in the NBA last season. They were not just bad though--they were so bad that it made history (lowest winning single season winning percentage in NBA history).

Still not sure what's so special? I'm getting there!...

When you are that bad the expectations are pretty low the following  year (in spite of the roster turnover) so it doesn't take much to look good (in comparison to last year). What makes the situation great for MKG is that being a No. 2 pick he'll be expected to do things, and with the dire straits the team has been in he and his talents will take center court fairly quick.

In short, he is going to get plenty of time and many, many chances to show what he's got.

Like he did a couple nights ago against the Dallas Mavericks. As you can see in the video, after snagging the rebound he took the ball the length of the court for the shot (and foul) while losing his shoe at mid-court.

Unlike his boss, His Airnes Michael Jordan (owner of the Bobcats), it 's not the shoes!

Incidentally, the Bobcats went on to win that game in overtime while MKG turned in 23 points and 12 rebounds. The 'Cats are now 2-3 and should be 3-3 after tonight's game against Washington.
