It may seem like unjust and cruel punishment—especially since they are guys that can actually afford to have a good time at strip clubs—but the NFL needs to seriously consider banning players from establishments that feature women taking their clothes off.
Yes, I know how strange that sounds, but when you take into consideration the number of guys that have gotten in serious, high-profile trouble while visiting their local Jiggly Room it kind of makes sense.
The latest player to fall victim to the allure of strip clubs is Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie. Apparently the man was such a regular at Miami area strip clubs that he racked up a bill in the range of $375,000 (at least that’s what the plaintiff Charles “Pop” Young is claiming).
No word on just how man lap dances that included or if he was foolish enough to actually drink inside those places (because paying $10 for a domestic beer should be a crime--not that I know anything about that).
McKinnie claims that he knows nothing of the charges and that he didn’t even learn about the suit until friends saw the news and they told him. Weather this is true we can’t know for certain, but what we do know is that he can’t afford it.
He was one of the many players that took out a loan during the lockout; his was for $4.5 million. The Ravens have to garnish his pay check this season in order to take care of that. With his contract and role getting reduce on the team this year there might not be much left!
Should this suit prove to be true, it would not be the first time that a player got in over his head at a strip club. A couple years ago while he was still with the Tennessee Titans, Vince Young got in an altercation at a Dallas area strip club that made national news.
Then there is Adam “Pacman” Jones and his infamous “make it rain” night at a strip club. He decided to make it rain money inside the club, but then got upset when the dancers just started taking money without his okay. A shooting ended up taking place that severely injured one club employee and left another paralyzed from the waist down.
It took a few years, but the case was finally settled. Jones will have to pay $11 million; his current salary isn’t even $1 million.
Banning guys may be kind of harsh and almost impossible to enforce, but these guys are making it clear that something needs to be done.
