The Truth About New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick

He's a schmuck.

Yep; that's all there is to it. Now I'm sure that many of you out there browsing the World Wide Web are thinking, "Duh! I've thought that for years! Well, as nice as it would be to just take your opinion of it and call that gospel, we can't.

It's not that you (or I for that matter) are not worthy. Who are we to pass judgement on anyone? What makes us qualified to do such a thing?

Nothing, however, next to the man upstairs there is one person that it is; the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft. Apparently that is exactly what he did a few years back when the whole Spygate scandal broke.

According to a new book called Coaching Confidential, back when the whole video taping scandal broke the owner had a little conversation with his head coach [in reference to the competitive advantage the team got fro the video taping]:

"How much did this help us on a scale of 1 to 100?" Kraft said.
"One," Belichick replied.
"Then you're a real schmuck," Kraft said.
It's good to know all these years later what Kraft thought about the whole mess. Belichick handled the media so well during the entire mess that if you can put aside what he did it was absolutely brilliant. Politicians could learn a whole lot about how to handle the press and deal with a mess from this man.
I'm sure this revelation will get some people thinking, "Well, then why didn't he say as much back then? I'd have had more respect for the man."

I have to say that I do have respect for him now knowing that is what he was thinking and yet didn't say it.  Kraft had to make a judgement call: cut lose his head coach for doing something incredibly stupid and publicly bash him to the world or keep it in house, deal with it among the only two people that matter (him and Bill), and move on.

Obviously he opted to keep Belichick and the move paid off. I--and millions of other fans--would not have been surprised if he had cut Belichick lose. Since he didn't he backed his man up. I can respect that; because if a leader doesn't take care of his people--especially when they make mistakes--what kind of leader is he?
