I have to give the NFL credit for getting some things right this year. With the way they have started doing scheduling there are more meaningful games being played at the end of the season. I can remember seasons past when the vast majority of the games were more like preseason match ups with the playoff bound guys playing their practice squads and the crappy team they were playing actually looking competitive for a change.
For the most part that was not the case on Sunday, but we did have a couple stinkers that were by and large meaningless except to the guys that were playing in them (and for some of them that is questionable). It's often in games like those though that we are treated to some of the funniest (or stupidest) acts by players either because they get mad or because they are finally playing (and haven't been; so while they don't look like a pro they look like they love the game).
Take these two gems from Sunday--the first is a clip from the Raiders/Chargers game, aka the we need a new coach bowl. Neither team had anything to play for and both coaches are likely to get fired by Monday. Expectations were up for both teams at the start of the season; neither obviously followed through.
In this clip it looks like Takeo Spikes is playing with an exceptionally short fuse. Although he might not have deserved to get ejected for what he was ejected for he sure did enough too warrant an ejection (and likely a fine) afterwards.
In this clip is the kind of thing I don't mind seeing; I kinda like it to be honest. The Eagles are getting blown out by the Giants. Since its the last game of the season, the defending Super Bowl champs are letting it all hang out--by everyone, not just the usual suspects.
Henry Hynoski is a rarity in the NFL in this day and age--an honest to goodness, true, blue, no tight end hybrid BS, legitimate fullback. Like the rest of the dying breed he is used primarily as a blocking back so he rarely gets the glory and often does the dirty work.
However, in the clip below Eli shows the "Hynoceros" a little love. Suffice it to say he was appreciative and real happy to get it.
This one might be my favorite since it highlights stupid rule that the NFL will hopefully change for next season.
Remember when the Texans got that touchdown by Justin Forsett even though he was clearly down, but since the coach threw the challenge flag it was non-reviewable and the play stood? In a nut shell since the play was already going to be reviewed since it was a scoring play the coach didn't need to thrown the flag. Since he did it was deemed a delay of game with part of the penalty was the play not getting reviewed.
Jordy Nelson didn't want his coach getting caught in a similar conundrum so when he saw the red flag come flying--well, just watch. It's pretty funny (and a heads up play).
