It came as no surprise considering the rumors that have been floating around, but Jets owner Jeffrey Lurie announced that Rex Ryan would be coming back next season:
"Rex Ryan will remain the head coach of our football team. I believe that he has the passion, the talent, and the drive to successfully lead our team."When Rex sticks with Mark Sanchez next season I am going to laugh long and hard--and then enjoy the train wreck that is the New York Jets for one more season. The only other thing that could make this catastrophe of a team even more VH1 reality show-ish would be if they kept Tim Tebow, but stated that this time he would get an honest shot to play.
Just kidding Tim. I hope they let you go.
Mike Munchak appears to have been given a stay of execution as well. Instead Bud Adams fired team president Mike Reinfeldt.
The following are the guys that are working on their resumes so far today:
- Andy Reid (Philadelphia Eagles)
- Pat Shurmur (Cleveland Browns)
- Chan Gailey (Buffalo Bills)
- Lovie Smith (Chicago Bears)
- Norv Turner (San Diego Chargers)
- Romeo Crennel (Kansas City Chiefs)
- Ken Whisenhunt (Arizona Cardinals)
The entire Arizona offensvie staff has been let go. Oakland OC Greg Knapp and three other assitants have been let go by the Raiders. A lot of general managers have been shown the door as well:
- Gene Smith (Jacksonville)
- Mike Tannenbaum (New York Jets)
- A.J. Smith (San Diego)
- Rod Graves (Arizona)
