Hockey Fans Rejoice! Lockout Over (sort of)

After watching the NFL and NBA mess up their collective bargaining agreement talks to the point where it cost the NBA games and cost the NFL a lot of unnecessary drama (and a whole lot of crappy games to start the season) you would think that the other leagues would have learned something.

Major League Baseball appeared to. Their new CBA talks barely registered a blip on the media radar they were so amicable. The NFL didn't; they jacked up the first few weeks of this current season by not coming to agreement with the referees in time.

After watching so many screw it up and knowing their own history with labor issues you would think the National Hockey League would have been able to get it right.

So much for that.

But hey--the past is the past. Fans can say that now because the lockout is over! (Go ahead and riot Vancouver; its a happy day)

Games are supposed to start on January 19th with guys reporting to camp by the end of next week (probably).

The only problem is that the agreement is tentative, and there are still lots of little details to knock out. Assuming they do work them out without anymore issues, the league is looking to have a 48 game schedule with January 19th being chock full of games all across the nation, any of them rivalry games.

They took the game away from fans for a few months and made them fear the complete loss of the season. The least they could do is usher it back in with the best match-ups possible, right?

Hopefully this 'tentative' label is in itself tentative. It is a shame that that a lot of people with a lot of money have to argue about how much each party gets of a very large and nice pie while the only folks that suffer are the fans that pay an arm and a leg for jerseys and game tickets.

But hey--that's professional sports for you, right?
